Early Summer Light (Unframed. Original botanical acrylic painting on stretched canvas, 40 x 30 inches)

Painted in early June just as spring turns to summer with all the vibrancy and excitement of the long bright days ahead.This painting was done in reverse rather like a screen print using a drawing rather than a stencil. The darker lime green undercoat shows through the pale pistachio green ice cream top coat that was brought down around the outline of the plant. The result is the thinner sheer lime undercoat which became the leaves allows light to pass through it while the pale green top coat full of white light emits its own glow in contrast.This translucence gives the entire picture a warm luminosity. It’s difficult to capture in a photograph, but the lighter color of the air or background is a very pale green and not white. The sides are left bright white.
