(2021. Acrylic, 40 x 30 inches / 100 x 75 cm)
FRAMED in a white 2” deep solid wood floater frame.
This acrylic painting on canvas was done in very thin sheer layers of tinted glazes to let the paler blue-green undercoat show through the darker layer. The translucence of the darker teal top coat gives the entire picture a luminous blue-green glow. The flatness is deliberate, inspired by block-printed textiles and kimono patterns and the way moonlight washes out colors and reduces that which it illuminates to bleached silhouettes.‘Moonlight’ is from the same series as my painting titled ‘Early Morning Light’ using the same drawing of the same plants which was drawn on big paper, saved, and transferred via carbon paper onto the canvas.
This is an identically sized painting of the same image but in very different colors. That is a habit I developed as a printmaker: with an image carved in a wooden block, it is very easy to roll a different color of ink on it and print the same image in completely different shades. I am often curious how the same painting composition would look in three different color schemes.
All prices include free shipping within the United States via UPS ground shipping. A tracking number will be provided.
