(2021. Acrylic, framed to 38 x 38 inches / 90 x 90 cm)
“Sunrise 2” is now framed in a 2-inch deep white solid wood floater frame . A hanging wire is attached on the back making it ready to go on the wall immediately.
Sunrises where I live in northern California are often foggy in the summer. It’s as if the day begins in black and white. There is a brief magical moment when the sun begins to glow through before the fog starts to melt away. The butter yellow I chose for the sky here is that glowing moment.
The cool gray I chose for the silhouettes of the palms is from a rather surreal walk I took when wildfire smoke had descended on the area making everything look like a tinted black and white photo with a yellow-orange sky.
Together the pale yellow and pale gray tones form a hushed moment of light suspended in heavy air. This is a quiet painting.
