Spring Night Triptych (30 x 67.5" total: Three Unframed 30 x 22.5" original cyanotypes)
30 x 66" combined: 3 unframed 30 x 22" original cyanotypes)
Unframed.
These are three separate unframed unique works on heavy 100% cotton Arches watercolor paper with deckled edges. They will ship stacked together flat in one large flat cardboard box. Each measures 30h x 22w inches. Once framed, hung side by side, they will span around 80 inches with a gap between them, around 6 1/2 - 7 feet horizontally.
Cyanotypes are a kind of 19th century alternative (cameraless) photographic process.
The blue sky in these monoprints is darker than the blue in the other triptych of the same size called “Evening Shade Triptych”. And the leaves are paler, almost white, a very very pale blue which from a distance is perceived as white.
All my botanical cyanotypes are one-of-kind monotypes. There is no etched copper plate, no carved wood block, no printing press and no ink to be able to reproduce these images. There is no film negative either. Each is a unique, hand-printed lensless photograph made using real plants from my own garden. These are branches from a cotoneaster tree. In one of the panels you can see the shapes of tiny berries on the branches.
