Misty Laurel Diptych (Two 23 x 18" monotypes)
Unframed.
Two separate 23 h x 18w unique gray cyanotypes. Once matted and framed in standard 30 h x 24" wide frames, the pair will span over 4 feet vertically or horizontally with a gap between the pieces.
Although they resemble block prints or screen print, these are actually a form of 19th-century photography, cyanotypes, also known as a sun prints or blue prints.
The normal color of a cyanotype (blueprint) is dark blue and white. However, this slate gray cyanotype was made by altering the ratio of two photo chemicals in the mixture before brushing it on the paper.
All of my botanical cyanotypes are unique monotypes. There is no carved block or etched plate to ink up twice to reproduce this composition. This pair of prints was made using fresh cut branches of the native California Bay Laurel tree.
