Summer Poppies (Unframed 30 x 22" original cyanotype painting on paper)
30 x 22 inches on heavy cotton watercolor paper
This is a combination of painting and a kind of alternative photographic process from the 1800s: cyanotype. I drew the silhouette of teh California Tree Poppies and painted it in —not with ink or paint, but with light-sensitive photo emulsion.
The blue and white pattern seen in each leaf which resembles painted Delft pottery is really a sun print or cameraless photograph of tiny flowers plants laid on top. If you look closely you may see a tiny flower or two.
UNFRAMED on 100% cotton Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper
With beautiful deckled edges all around. The decorative edges and slight waviness to the paper from how it dried make it best to frame with edges exposed rather than covered by a mat.
