(12 x 12” original monotype framed to 20 x 20" in 2" deep white box frame)

The tiny flowers of clover bring to mind tiny babies and children's love of picking daisies and wildflowers. These were made with the wild clover that pops up regularly in my overgrown garden in California.

These is ONE 12 x 12 inch (30 x 30cm) unique monotype.
There is another of a similar name "Yellow Summer Clover 2" that can be purchased to form a diptych hung vertically or horizontally.

Although this looks like a block print, or screen print, it is a cyanotype, a type of 19th century cameraless photography also known as blueprints or sun prints. Each blade of grass or twig was laid by hand in that exact composition only once. Every one of my botanical cyanotypes is an entirely unique monotype. There is no copper plate; there is no ink or printing press to make more than one copy.

This cyanotype started as a blueprint but was "toned" or altered in color through a soaking in sodium carbonate, a natural detergent. The darker the original blue print, the darker the yellow will be upon toning (altering the color). The bleaching process takes an extra hour, and there is always a possibility of destroying the original blue with splotches if small spots in the original resist changing color from blue to yellow. Thus the cost is a bit higher than for my blue cyanotypes.

Unique monotype. Printed on 100% cotton watercolor paper. Signed on the back by the artist.

Unframed. Ships in a box.
