Spring Agapanthus (8 x 8 inch oil painting on wood panel)
Spring Agapanthus (8 x 8 inch oil painting on wood panel)
This miniature painting on birchwood panel is the size you might hang in a kitchen or bathroom in a tight space.
The green is a lovely cactus green. The green is cooler, less yellow than my 24 x 24” painting on panel “Spring Garden”. This is one of the many agapanthus flowers that bloom in my garden each summer, The species is originally from South Africa.
I have deliberately made the shapes flat and smooth like cutouts, with some of the pencil outline showing. It is an oil painting, but in a way resembles a block print or woodcut more than an oil painting. My background is in printmaking and I have a lifelong affinity for the calm and quiet of monochromatic compositions.
The birchwood panel has a wire on the back and is ready to hang on the wall. The sides are natural wood, unpainted. The cradled panel acts as its own frame.
