In the Distance (16 x 12” hand-printed cyanotype)
16 x 12” hand-printed cyanotype on 100% cotton watercolor paper.
This is a hand-printed photograph using an antique nineteenth century process. The view is of an intensely foggy morning in the woods in Northern California when one could only see the closest pine trees while all the rest disappeared into the white mist.
The long narrow format is inspired by the height of the trees and by Asian scroll paintings. Though I t is a photo, it is reminiscent of traditional Chinese sumi ink paintings of craggy mountains with pines hanging off them. There are times when nature imitates art.
On heavy 100% cotton watercolor paper. No white border.
